NGĀ RŌPŪ

THE NINE DIVISIONAL RŌPŪ

Ngā Rōpū are the eight divisional Māori student sub-associations of Te Rōpū
Māori that exist at The University of Otago, to create another support system
within students specific degrees. Each of the Ngā Rōpū are tailored to their
particular divisions which include, medicine, humanities, dentistry, physical
education, commerce, law, physiotherapy and pharmacy. Every sub-association
aims to provide the same services as Te Rōpū Māori but with specific focus
towards their relevant division and students. Frequently Ngā Rōpū work with
each other and alone on numerous events such as social events, sports, study
nights and wānanga.

INTERSHEILD COMPETITION
Every year, throughout the year, all of the Ngā Rōpū compete against each
other. Usually a total of six events are held that provide all of the Ngā Rōpū with
the chance to score points over all the competitions. Four of the events consist of
sub-associations pairing up and organising competitive events that are creative,
fun and rewarding. While the other two events are sports competitions organised
by the Āpiha Hauora of Te Rōpū Māori. At the end of the year the Ngā Rōpū
with the most points wins the Ngā Rōpū Shield.
Ngā Rōpū are a great way to connect and network with people within your own
division of studies. It can also provide tauira with a more tight knit group of like
minded people, ultimately benefiting their experience while studying.
